Hello and Good-bye

Good Morning everyone!! We joyfully welcomed my sister and her two boys on Monday and we've been having a grand time! I'll have tons of pictures and updates next week after they leave. =) I thought I'd do a really quick post right now - the kids are busy jumping on the air mattress and Kelyn started Memoirs of a Geisha this morning - so I have a little time!

Yesterday was Grandma Saxton's funeral. Both Kelyn and I are very sad that we couldn't be there for it. Even though she was sick, her death still came as a shock. Last Saturday my mom called with the news and after I hung up I burst into tears. Anika was very concerned and asked what was wrong. I told her that Manna Kivett's mommy had died and she asked why (of course). I told her that when our bodies stop working we get to go live with Heavenly Father and Jesus again. She said "Ohhhh - I need to give her a kiss so she will be better! Should we drive to Heavenly Father's house so I can give her a kiss?" I thought that was SO sweet. I know that she is in a happy place and I'm glad that she won't have to be sick anymore. I just wish I had visited her more and gotten to know her better. Mom - you guys are in our prayers. We love you!

My Little Surfer Girls

Hey all! I'm feeling ever so SUMMERISH today! It was such a perfect day. BUT, let me start with yesterday just so that I don't fall behind! My poor, dear husband had a apicoectomy done on his mouth yesterday. I felt so bad for him. We went to pick him up and his lip was SO swollen! Apparently, he had a root canal when he was 10 that was poorly done so he had a MAJOR infection. The endodontist that did the surgery said that it was the biggest he had seen - about the size of a 50 cent piece! Can you imagine that much puss just hiding out under your gums?? Pretty cool. =) Haha! I know, I have officially grossed out many of you. Sorry! At least I decided against sharing a picture with you! Anyway - he is healing up well and finally able to eat solids. My poor, brave husband - he went 24 hours on mashed potatoes and pudding snacks! For those of you that are wondering why a 10 year old would need a root canal - well let me just share the story (because I think it's a pretty good one)! Nathan and Cam were wrestling and fighting (like brothers will do) and Cam pushed Nathan into the edge of the bathtub. It broke Nathan's middle two teeth in half and pushed them back into the roof of his mouth and one tooth got knocked up next to his nose. And now, after years of dental agony, he has the charming smile we all know and love! AND poor Cam really had it coming. A couple years later a baseball paid him back. I guess what goes around comes around! Just kidding Cam! They are both in dental school now and gearing up to save those unfortunate children that run into the same fate!
For playgroup yesterday we went to this really awesome park called Jonathan's Dream! The girls loved it! I managed to get a few pictures. I am having a hard time getting the girls to look at me when I take pictures. They just ignore my pleas!

AND TODAY! We decided to take a little day trip to the beach and hit IKEA on the way! Anika was so excited to go to the beach and it was such a beautiful day. We ran into some traffic on the way and the lady behind me was having some SERIOUS road rage! I felt sorry for her but she provided some pretty good entertainment! She was banging her head on the steering wheel, shaking her fists at the sky, hitting the windshield, pulling her hair. She must have been late for something!! We stopped in at IKEA because I wanted to check out their bunk beds. They are cheap and sturdy and I can paint and stencil them if I want to make them all cutesy! This one is an option or this one. I'm leaning toward the one with the bottom bunk on the floor - it would be perfect for Keslie. At the store it's only $180 but that's still $80 more than the other one. We'll see. We ate some hotdogs (for 50 cents how could we NOT!) and then took off! At my exit I took a wrong turn but I think it was fate because I ended up at (you'll never guess!) the SUBWAY WORLD HEADQUARTERS!!! For those of you who don't know my history with Subway - I worked there for 2 years and even dressed as a sub for a whole day! I dearly loved that job and still feel nostalgic every time I go in one (and grumpy - they just don't make subs as well as I do!). I have 3 sisters who have worked or are working there! So, you can understand why the Subway World Headquarters would spark tender feelings within me! Uh - I'm a little cheesy today.
Anyway - this is to bring a smile to your faces:

Here I am in all my Subway glory on a blazing hot July day!!

Back to the beach - Anika LOVED LOVED LOVED it! She made friends with a little boy and his mom and after they left she was all over the place! Keslie never really warmed up to the sand or the water - I don't think she liked the way the sand felt on her feet. But, by the end she was helping Anika dig. We are definitely going again soon - and for longer! And - I'm not kidding - when we got in the car and headed home THE BEACH BOYS - LITTLE SURFER GIRL came on! Perfect timing!
When we got home we stayed out back and the girls played in the hose while we talked to Hilda and Saul. We really have the best neighbors/landlords! Keslie actually loved the hose! So, that was our day - topped off with Wendy's for dinner! Woohoo!

Anika has begun the dreaded "WHY?" stage. She asks "why?" after everything! She is so funny and talks nonstop. She says "I am a big girl, but not big like you because I don't have big teeth yet!" We've had that conversation many times. While we were parked and waiting for Nathan at the school today I let her come sit by me in the front seat and she kept saying how big she was and how daddy could sit in the back by Keslie and she would sit up front with me because we are best friends. SO CUTE! I wish she could sit up front with me!

Today while we were driving she asked me to sing the "I love my girls" song. I think I need to start paying attention to the songs I make up if she's going to start requesting them! Yikes!

Keslie is suddenly CRAZY addicted to her pacifier. And it has to be the MAM teething pacifier. Nathan was teasing her tonight and gave her two different ones before finally giving her the one she wanted. The first one she just looked at and pointed at the floor and said no! and the second one she stuck in her mouth, wiggled her tongue and then spit it out. She was thrilled when she saw the one she wanted. I need to get brave and take it away.

Well - Nathan is studying so I am going to try to clean a little bit tonight. I didn't feel like doing it today (hence - the beach trip) and I am babysitting all day tomorrow so I'm going to get a headstart tonight. 2 1/2 more days until Kel and the boys are here!! Yay!!!

Weird Al' Eat It

Wow - he really is weird!! I heard this song on the RADIO and it made me think of my darling 3 year old that went to bed hungry last night because she wouldn't eat her dinner. =) This is dedicated to Anika. =) ENJOY!

Our Trip to AZ

We had such a great time visiting AZ this past week. I just love Nathan's family. I got to see my sisters and the Soters a couple times but other than that we just stayed in one place!
The day we got there Carol took all of the girls (me, Brooke, Afton, and Jordan) out to get pedicures and manicures for Mother's day! It was FABULOUS! Oh, how I love being pampered! I think it's even more fun right now because it's such a novelty! Anyway - it felt great and my toes looked so pretty! Then that evening we went out to eat at a really nice restaurant. Aside from Scott, all of us were there so it was really great to spend time together. The rest of the week was spent swimming, working on little projects around the house(I still feel like we should have done more!!) and just relaxing . We borrowed Britt and Dusty's WII and played that a bunch over the weekend. Nathan and I got to go on a date for our 5 year anniversary while we were there. We went to the temple and then to Olive Garden - and it was just what we needed. Last Saturday we moved a bunch of stuff into their new house. We love the new house but we are going to miss the old one! So many memories.
Kelyn threw a cute "cousin party". She is just so cool! When we walked in she had a big sign over the door that said WELCOME COUSINS and had made them little sandwich h'orderves(I know I didn't spell that right!), a birthday cake and goodie bags! Kelyn is the best! I didn't get any pictures but Mandi and Kelyn did so I will hopefully get some copies. Kelyn watched ALL 7 kids while Mandi and I met up with Steve and Nathan for lunch. Thanks again sis! Of course we laughed all through lunch! The Soter's are so fun and we always crave their company! I got to love on Katie and I was so excited about that. She is so cute and has quite the head of hair! Keslie and I spent a couple hours with Britt and Brayton. We went swimming and it was the one and only time that Keslie warmed up to being in the pool. I have a couple of wimps on my hands! Swimming lessons are a must before we move back!!
It was over much too fast. Carol took us to the airport and walked with us all the way up until we had to go through the scanners. She is so fabulous and saved the day with the airplane pack she gave us. We were hoping that the girls would sleep all the way home but that didn't happen. Luckily, Anika was entertained with the sticker books and modeling clay. Keslie squirmed all over the place and ended up kicking a cup of water onto the guy in front of us. NICE - he was already grumpy because his seat had been kicked a couple of times. Anyway - It was a little easier to say good-bye (at least for me) because we will be going back in a month. It was such a great trip!
The girls are having a hard time adjusting to CT time. This has never happened before! The first two days we were home we slept in until 10! HOLY MOLY! I haven't done that since I was a teenager!
We are so excited for next week because Kelyn and her boys are coming into town for 10 days! CAN'T wait!! I'm so lucky to have sisters that are my best friends.
Well - here are a bunch of scattered pictures!

The Haircut Fiasco

Last night just wasn't my night. This latest haircut did NOT go well - Which is a major bummer because I have done so well on previous cuts that weren't right before we were going home to AZ. I'm patting myself on the back right now! =)

Anyway - here's the story. Nathan got all the haircutting stuff out for me so it didn't occur to me to check to make sure the attachment was on the clippers. He usually has it all set up. Well - it wasn't on and I didn't realize that until Nathan had a bald stripe up the back of his head. Woops! Nathan was a pretty good sport for the most part. I bawled the night away. I felt so terrible! Afterwards we went ahead and finished the cut (obviously it was way shorter than he had originally hoped for). I think I did as good a job as I could have with what he wanted - but the stripe was still pretty obvious. He played hooky today and Hillary buzzed the bottom off. I have my very own military man now! =) Here are some pictures for your enjoyment!

An Update

Happy Tuesday everyone! We had a really fun weekend! Friday, of course, we went and saw Spider-Man 3. Scott - thanks for watching the girls!! We loved the movie! Kelyn called me on Saturday and gave me an earful about her and Spencer's disdain for it! Could not believe my ears!! Boring?? No way!! Too many plots? I didn't think so. =) I guess we are all entitled to our own opinions. =) Love you Kel!

On Saturday we had our annual Cinco De Mayo party! We had a pinata for the kids and lots of yummy Mexican food. I'm so glad that the weather was nice and we were able to do everything outside because we ended up having quite the group of people! Most of the kids that were there are in the pictures. Our neighbor, Mike and his two sons came over for awhile but they had to leave before we were able to snap any pictures! SO - here are some pictures of the kids trying o break open that darn pinata!! The first is a close-up of Anika - she gets a little bit psycho sometimes! =)

On Sunday we went to the Jones for dinner. We are going to miss those guys! They leave in 2 weeks!

I took the girls in to the doctor today. We have literally been into the doctor's office every month since October!! Anika has a SEVERE ear infection. Dr. Limaye was surprised Anika wasn't screaming in pain. She's a trooper. Poor little thing! Keslie has one in the works. She gave me a prescription just in case. I sure hope they get better before this weekend!!

Some of you know about our little tragedy that happened last night involving me, Nathan's head, and the clippers. Pictures will be posted later tonight. =) See ya!

Well - I can't believe I haven't posted these pictures! Before Jenn and the boys left for Hawaii last week we had a little impromptu family home evening with them! We played Settlers of Catan. Scott won (barely - haha!) and I came in second place. I guess I have to find out what that feels like every once in awhile. =) Just kidding! Anyway - I'm glad we got to do that because Jenn will be gone for 3 months which is a long time to be without her! Scott took a bunch of pictures of the kids with their new, really awesome, camera. He was kind enough to let us have copies. =) Here they are: We were all serious ragamuffins (besides Nath - he looks like a major stud).

In other news - remember the dreaded allergies I wrote about last week? Well - it has begun! Nathan was down and out for a few days (he swears it was a cold - I say allergies) and this morning Keslie is a bear (allergies), Anika is sneezing and sniffing, and I feel those ever so familiar signs of an oncoming allergy attack. I've been doing the bunny nose and my eyes burn and I'm sneezing. This is nothing though! Look for a pity party post next week when it gets serious!

Anika is doing a funny thing with her words. She did it awhile back for a couple weeks and then stopped and we were so relieved but she's back at it. She repeats the last sound of the words a few times. Example: "I want to eat t t t." Or "Where are my socks s s s" Or "I'm tired d d d" or "I need a nap p p p." It's driving me crazy!! She's cute as ever though. She's so happy and full of fun.

We've been trying to get outside everyday! Yesterday we played in the sand at the park twice! I had 2 dirty little girls!

I'll have more to post later this weekend! Cinco De Mayo is tomorrow so we are going to have a little shindig. Hopefully I'll get some fun pictures! Next weekend we are going on a short trip to AZ. Nathan's parents are flying us out there! Woohoo! We are SO excited to see them! We aren't going to be making the visits or be very social on this trip. Most of our time will be spent with them. I'm going to do my best to catch up with everyone in July when I am there. It will only be for a week - so my time will be limited but it will be so great to see everyone - even if it's just for a little while!

By the way - still haven't found Keslie's swimming suit and now a pair of pants is missing. So weird!!

Case of the missing swimsuit

Okay guys. How far could this thing have gone? I remember showing it to Nathan on Saturday night (still on the hanger) and I haven't seen it since! I've looked in drawers, cupboards, behind things, under things, in the garbage...

I think it just up and walked away! Any ideas???
